Switch Datacenter Group strengthens management team
Press Release: Switch Datacenter Group strengthens management team
Amsterdam, 18 June 2018 - Switch Datacenter Group, a leading Amsterdam-based provider of state-of-the-art carrier-neutral data centres, has significantly strengthened its management team as part of its ambitious expansion plans.
This expansion by two industry veterans supports Switch Datacenter Group's ambition to become one of the market leaders in the Dutch colocation sector and to grow further as an international provider of its unique Data Center as a Service (DCaaS) proposition.
CEO and co-founder Gregor Snip remains in his position as CEO of the group and will focus on strategic group plans, while the new Managing Director, Edgar van Essen, is responsible for day-to-day operations and market position. Jan Siderius, who is also a data centre veteran, will fulfil the role of Operational Director.
Edgar van Essen brings with it more than twenty years of (inter)national management and business development experience in the telecom, fiber and connectivity sector that will help Switch to grow further. For many years Edgar worked in international management positions at Lucent Technologies and Alcatel-Lucent, where he was involved in hardware, software and services, worked in strategic consultancy and investment companies and was also active in various umbrella industry organisations such as the Brussels-based renowned Fibre to the Home Council Europe, of which he was a personal co-founder and was also a member of the board. Over the past five years, Edgar, as Managing Director Western Europe, has strongly expanded the market position of Swiss high-end connectivity provider R&M by achieving consistent double-digit growth in more than 20 countries.
Jan Siderius is a recognised expert in the field of high-end data centre standards and technologies. He has a track record in operational management in data centres, including at ABN AMRO and then at IBM as site manager and technical data centre lead, both as a long-term and in-depth track record.
"Since the opening of the Switch Datacenter AMS1 in 2011, Switch has grown faster than the market by focusing on customized data center co-location solutions for high-end customers. By installing state-of-the-art cooling techniques and patented in-house developed technical solutions, Switch has set the standard for a low PuE and green data centres in the Netherlands. By constantly innovating, we can always provide our customers with more efficient, and therefore lower, capex and opex solutions," says Gregor Snip.
Last year saw the development and large-scale implementation of a highly successful offering for Datacenter as a Service, DCaaS, which helps Switch wholesale data centres gain rapid access to the Dutch market by outsourcing the entire design, construction and operations to Switch.
"We see a growing demand from larger customers who actually need their own data centre, but who do not have the time or the knowledge to build it themselves. By completely outsourcing this need to Switch, which has built up a reliable reputation as one of the market leaders in the Netherlands in recent years, a DCaaS customer can make smart use of the many years of operational experience in this demanding market in the Netherlands"". Switch is regularly approached to use this unique experience for new projects for the large data centre users in the Netherlands and abroad.
